5 Tips to Reclaim the Squat Rack from the New Years Resolutioners
Let's face it, the majority of the sheeple will be herding in after 5pm. This is always a busy time anyway so try and avoid this rush hour. I know it's a pain in the backside, but if you don't want to listen to Bro-Science and his mates talking about their two week "gains" and all the "supps" they take, then, for your own sanity, try and work out a schedule for your training that means that for the time being you can at least get a workout done in peace!
You deserve to be in that gym just as much as anyone else...you all pay the same fees. So why should they hog all of the best equipment. Don't think that just because you're a woman and they are a man that you don't have the right to ask them to get a wriggle on. This is your gym, your domain, you were there first! If they are sitting there on their phone or chatting away, just politely ask how many more sets they have or if you can jump in during their rests. You'll usually find that people start being a little less liberal with their Facebook time if they know that someone is waiting for them! Which leads me to the next tip...
Hey, they might be a nice person, and just don't know where to start. Maybe they feel a little intimindated if working out is fairly new to them. So if you feel like they are time wasting on equipment, not only can you make your presence felt so they know you are waiting for the equipment, but why not give them a hand? You never know, you might end up with a new training buddy! Plus it will be easier for you to keep jumping in on their rests to get your reps in if you're on first name basis with them. Its like those little birds that sit on the hippos, a kind of relationship in nature of convenience...!
Why not get a Personal Trainer for a few weeks? They usually have time slots where in gyms they can use the equipment as certain times of the day. Not oonly will this give you exclusive use of the equipment but you will also will have a times set each week to train. At a time when you're getting back into your routine, this can only be a positive thing! And who couldn't use a little extra motivation, eh? (ps-my rates are very reasonable!)
Remember, this is temporary. It will die down, the new faces will become old timers and before you know it the New Year rush will be a distant memory. Don't let anyone- and I mean anyone- make you put your own training on the back burner! They don't have your goals, and only you are responsible for meeting them. As Arnie says, there are 24 hours in a day so you will always have time to train. Before becoming a trainer myself I used to think a 7pm finish was a late night after a full day's work, but that's an early night for me now. You can sometimes find me training until 9pm when my gym closes. You just gotta do, what you gotta do! So suck it up sweetheart and get on with it!!
